Sedrick The Snail was very… veeerrrry slow. His friend Sid The Slug would always tell him so. Sed said that they should race and that would surely show, so Sid decided on a date to go tell everyone they know. Now when that day finally came, old Sid he nearly froze when he saw so many insects sat in lines of cheering rows. On the mound by the compost and the heavenly scented rose. Composed or just exposed before the ready… steady… GO! They sped off across the grass using every single blade. Dodging lawnmowers that passed and the rusty metal spade. Along the length of the house and the patio they paved. Insecta, bird and mouse shocked by the slimy mess they made! You could hear the screaming woodlice and all the clapping aphids, cheering on the good guys. All gorged on entertainment. The tension in the garden there so palpable and blatant. You could even hear the chants of “This is awesome!” from the pavement. 12 cheers for the slug, another dozen for the snail! All their peers full of love, wanting nobody to fail. All the creatures and bugs and the silver, slimy trails. And this song's here to tell their tale… Sid The Slug, you see, he knew surprisingly well that old Sed was weighed down by the size of his shell. But Sed knew that Sid was pretty slimy as well. Who would be the better athlete? Only time would tell! As they turned the corner by the gate Sid turned to check. He couldn’t believe his eyes mate - they were still neck and neck! It got a little scary as they dodged the sparrow’s peck. By the fish in the pond there and the fake plastic ship wreck. All the crowds there were holding up some wonderful signs, as the rounded pair rumbled through the jungle of vines. Would they ever reach the line or would they run out of time?! Will we ever get clean now if we stood in their slime?! It was pretty hard to hear above the horns that were blown, when it nearly came to tears due to the claws of the crows. With such little fear the duo really ought to have bones. Both switching up the gears to wage a war for the thrown! 12 cheers for the slug, another dozen for the snail! All their peers full of love, wanting nobody to fail. All the creatures and bugs and the silver, slimy trails. And this song's here to tell their tale… The Mollusk Grand Prix! Analysed and televised. With sponsorship deals and ad-breaks for pesticides. All captured on live feed, by the cameras of several flies. Meanwhile back in the field - the crowds gathered and energised! As the two locked horns the audience took a deep breath. A few popped corns while heroes try to cheat death. And you’re not wrong, sure - you really should be impressed. That’s why it all became a song and why the tale stood the test. And why the ladybirds nearly bit their nails to the nubs. And why the earthworms looked about as shocked as the grubs. And why the ants and the spiders were all properly stunned. Flys yelling “RUN RIOT!” at the top of their lungs! It’s why the squirrels hid their face behind the leaves of the trees. And why mosquitos were engrossed, just like the fleas and the bees. And as the racing enemies two’d and fro’d for the lead… Even the centipedes were blown away by their speed! 12 cheers for the slug, another dozen for the snail! All their peers full of love, wanting nobody to fail. All the creatures and bugs and the silver, slimy trails. And this song's here to tell their tale… It seemed to take forever, but they gave up such a fight as they raced hell-to-leather, and day turned into night. Passed the tree with reddish leaves and the tangled yellow kite and the old shed painted green. And with the finish line in sight, they gave it everything they had. They couldn’t have given more. But as they crossed the finish line, neither of them saw. And all the other insects said they “…really weren’t sure.” So they said to Sid and Sedrick, they were “Calling it a draw!”
